Rabbit farmer/owner of Fatty Owl Farm
Mary DeMare has been an integral part of Slow Money NC from its inception in 2010. Back then she managed the books for our fiscal sponsor, so she knew how much money we didn’t have to get Slow Money NC up and running.
She was the first general manager at our beloved food coop, Chatham Marketplace, and spent five years taking that from a dream to a viable grocery and cafe business. During her tenure we did a Slow Money bank loan refinance to the tune of 400k.
Now at Fatty Owl Farm, together with Dan Shields, she is bringing rabbits to the tables in our region. She ran a successful Barnraiser campaign, and is getting a Slow Money loan to buy a meat processor so they can sell their rabbits to restaurants and stores.
When it comes to funding small farms, Mary’s “been there, done that.”
